Kalkaska County Fairgrounds- KART Trail

Join us to plant trees along the Kalkaska Area Recreation Trail (KART) near the Kalkaska Fairgrounds. We have approximately 30 trees that we need help planting and mulching along the trail. The hard work of digging the holes will be already be done for everyone…which is handy because these will be bigger trees. Taller than you and I with 2 inch caliper trunks! No prior experience is necessary, as all tools will be provided and skills will be taught!

Planting kick-off and demonstration will begin at 9:00am at the Kalkaska County Fairgrounds. We will explain how to choose the right tree for the right place and best care practices. After a planting demonstration, we will disperse into groups and get our hands dirty to beautify K.A.R.T. with trees!

Many hands will make light work and everyone will be tree planting experts by the end of the event! Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. If you have a favorite shovel or gloves feel free to bring them along, otherwise all tools will be provided on site.

We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the organizations that make this project possible! This project was funded in part with a grant from the USDA Forest Service and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. We have also received funding and support from Great Lakes Energy People Fund. Other generous donors include Barker Creek Nursery and Morgan Composting.
